Scott Yang

Music has been an intrinsic part of Scott Yang‘s life. Starting with piano at the age of 5, he soon began to study the cello with Kevin Wei. Since grade 4, he has won numerous piano and cello awards including Kiwanis and Kawaii. He is currently a grade 10 student at Lord Byng Secondary and is an active member of the Lord Byng Symphony Orchestra, senior group of the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra as well the voluntary group Vanstring.
He has completed both piano and cello grade 10 and is preparing for the ARCT exam in both. Scott has visited the museums and the houses of Beethoven and Mozart to familiarize with the lives of classical greats. He has been to many summer camps including Mozarteum in Salzburg, Allegro Vivo Festival in Vienna and Casalmaggiore International Music Festival in Italy, studying with many known teachers. Lang Lang once taught Scott at a masterclass at Tom Lee while he was at Vancouver for a visit.
In Scott’s spare time, he enjoys watching concerts including recitals of Yo-Yo Ma, Andre Rieu, Lang Lang, Yundi Li and Yulianna Avdeeva as well as musicals such as Les Miserables.
